Vectrix
Designing the Product That Led to Vectrix’s Cloudflare Acquisition

OVERVIEW
Vectrix was an early-stage Y-combinator cybersecurity platform helping companies deploy and manage security scanners across complex environments. The product was powerful—but highly technical, difficult to onboard, and challenging for non-security experts to use.
WANDR partnered with Vectrix at a critical inflection point, helping transform a complex security tool into a clear, scalable product—laying the foundation that ultimately led to its acquisition by Cloudflare.
THE CHALLENGE
1. Complex product experience blocking adoption
Vectrix offered powerful security infrastructure, but the UX required deep technical knowledge to navigate. New users struggled to understand setup steps, scanner deployment, and system status—making the product difficult to adopt without heavy guidance from internal teams.
2. High onboarding friction limiting activation
Despite strong interest from potential customers, many users failed to reach meaningful activation. Core workflows weren’t intuitive, onboarding lacked guidance, and users often dropped off before fully understanding the platform’s value—putting retention and enterprise expansion at risk.
3. No UX framework to support scale
Vectrix had no formal UX strategy, research foundation, or decision-making framework in place:
- No structured user research
- No defined buyer personas or behavioral segmentation
- No consistent UX patterns or interaction logic
- Product decisions driven primarily by assumptions and engineering constraints
This made it difficult for leadership to confidently evolve the product as the company scaled.
4. 4. Need for enterprise-ready clarity and narrative
As Vectrix grew, the product needed to support enterprise demos, partnerships, and long-term strategic outcomes. The existing experience lacked the clarity, structure, and narrative required to communicate value to stakeholders, buyers, and potential acquirers.

WANDR SOLUTIONS
Because this was a multi-year partnership (and still ongoing!), our scope of engagement has evolved tremendously from our initial UX/UI redesign to staff augmentation and being fully embedded into their product team to build out their global design system, their international platforms, and more!
Phase 1 — UX Audit & Product Clarity
WANDR began with a comprehensive UX audit of Vectrix’s platform, onboarding flows, dashboards, and information architecture. Using heuristic evaluation, workflow analysis, and ideal-state UX modeling, we identified where users dropped off, misunderstood functionality, or failed to reach meaningful activation. This audit surfaced deeper structural issues—unclear hierarchy, fragmented patterns, and missing UX principles—which directly informed every redesign decision that followed.
Phase 2 — Product UX Redesign & Onboarding Optimization
WANDR redesigned Vectrix’s core product experience with a focus on clarity, hierarchy, and enterprise usability. This included:
- Guided onboarding and setup flows
- Clear dashboards for scanner status and insights
- Simplified deployment workflows
- Scalable UX patterns aligned with enterprise expectations
Usability testing showed a 91%+ task success rate, validating improved clarity and flow. The redesigned experience significantly improved activation and readiness for enterprise demos and growth conversations.
Phase 3 — Embedded Product & UX Partnership
WANDR operated as a deeply embedded product partner, working alongside Vectrix’s leadership and engineering teams. Beyond design execution, we introduced UX frameworks, decision-making processes, and scalable design standards that shaped how the product evolved over time. Many of the UX foundations, onboarding flows, and product narratives created during WANDR’s partnership remained core to the product through its acquisition by Cloudflare.
Impact
⭐ Improved activation by 76%
⭐ Reduced onboarding TTV from 74 minute average to 24 minutes.
⭐ Established scalable UX foundations for enterprise growth
⭐ Increased usability and demo-readiness for sales and partnerships
⭐ Contributed to the product foundation that led to Vectrix’s acquisition by Cloudflare
Conclusion
WANDR didn’t just redesign Vectrix’s interface—we helped transform a complex security product into a scalable, enterprise-ready platform. By bringing structure, clarity, and modern UX practices to the product, WANDR helped lay the foundation that supported Vectrix’s growth and eventual acquisition by Cloudflare.

“WANDR played a critical role in shaping our product at a pivotal time. Their team brought clarity, speed, and senior-level thinking when we needed it most.”
