How Wandr’s UX Design & Strategy Helped ModFi Raise $4.1M Seed Round

OVERVIEW

ModFi was a small team of 3 founders who came to WANDR with an ambitious goal: build an all-in-one financial platform combining payments, digital wallets, rewards, budgeting, P2P transfers, and more. What began as a three-month prototype engagement evolved into a multi-year partnership, where WANDR became an embedded extension of ModFi’s founding team — shaping their product strategy, design ecosystem, storytelling, and operational foundations.Our work not only launched ModFi’s first cohesive product experience — it directly contributed to raising $4.1M in capital and enabled ModFi to secure its first global, non-exclusive patent license agreement with a major technology company in 2024.

THE CHALLENGE

The founders of ModFi had an existing powerful fintech IP but lacked the UX clarity, product structure, and research insights needed to bring a unified product to market. Core challenges included:

1. No defined MVP or validated market

ModFi wasn’t sure who the product should target, how to position it, or which features would drive adoption. Pricing, branding, and core value propositions were unclear.

2. Fragmented product direction

Web, mobile, smart card, and future enterprise plans all existed independently. There was no shared user experience or design foundation linking them together.

3. No product operations or scalable UX framework

ModFi lacked workflows, research practice, design systems, templates, or structured decision making around product.

4. Small leadership team needing strategic support

ModFi lacked internal roles that required senior thinking across UX, product strategy, research, and design operations

WANDR SOLUTIONS

Phase 1 — Market Research, Strategy & Building Initial MVP

WANDR led early user and market research, behavioral segmentation, and competitive analysis to identify ModFi’s strongest market opportunities. We defined the highest-value customer segments, core value propositions, the MVP feature set, and strategic positioning within fintech. This gave ModFi its first evidence-based product direction and a clear path to build with confidence.

Phase 2 — End-to-End UX/UI for Mobile, Web, Marketing Site & Pitch Deck

In just three months, WANDR designed ModFi’s full digital ecosystem — the mobile app, web app, marketing site, pitch deck, and the foundational user journeys and information architecture. Usability testing scored above 91%, validating clarity and ease of use. The resulting high-fidelity prototype became ModFi’s flagship asset for investor pitches and played a direct role in securing their $4.1M seed round. We continued partnering with ModFi for more than two years to iterate and expand the platform.

Phase 3 — Engineering Integration & Global Design System Development

WANDR embedded a senior front-end engineer directly into ModFi’s team, using React Native / Next.js to build their entire product ecosystem. Our team engineered the front-end for the native mobile app, web app, and the global design system, as well as the entire build for their marketing website. Beyond design, WANDR handled full implementation, ensuring every product experience was production-ready and aligned across platforms.
